how do you dye a shirt a diffrent color!? PLEASE help!?

i was given this shirt the other day that i really like. except its hot pink. i was wondering if there was any way i could dye it another color. light pink? black? white? anything really would be better. but i really dont want it to be blotchy, i would rather it be one solid color. the fabric is 100% rayon and it says "do not bleach" on the tag. it has no words or print on it. thanks for all the help i can get!

Rayon can be dyed with a cool water fiber reactive dye, such as Procion MX dye, as long as the shirt is washable. (You can't dye anything that cannot be washed.) Do not use a hot-water dye such as Rit all-purpose dye.

You will not be able to buy the Procion dye in the grocery store, but your local crafts store should carry it. Look for Tulip One Step Fashion Dye, Dylon Cold Dye, or Jacquard Procion MX dye. They all contain the same excellent type of dye. You can also mail-order Procion MX dye from any of the dye suppliers in the last link below.

To dye a single solid color without blotches, you must first prewash thoroughly to remove any invisible stains that may repel dye. While dyeing, you must stir constantly to maintain a smooth even color. The easiest way to dye clothing a smooth solid color is in the washing machine. The packets you can buy of Tulip One Step Fashion Dye or Dylon Cold Dye are too small to use in the washing machine, so you will have to use a five-gallon bucket with a long-handled spoon. To dye with cool water dye in the washing machine, mail-order a two-ounce jar of Procion MX dye.

Note that the stitching that holds your shirt together at the seams is almost certainly polyester, which will not take the dye. It will remain the original color while the rayon changes to the color you dye it. You can dye your shirt a darker color, but dye cannot be used to lighten its color. You can easily dye your hot pink shirt to a dark or bright purple, or to black, but to lighten it to a light pink you cannot use dye. You can instead use Rit Color Remover to lighten most dyes.
