where are the busy, exciting places to visit in Manhattan?
My fiance, sister and i are stopping in Manhattan at the beginning of October and would appreciate some suggestions for places to visit. We have all the popular sites pencilled in such as the Empire state building, Rockefeller, Central Park, Macy's and Bloomingdale's, etc but would really like to see some of the not-so-touristy stuff. Are there any festivals, street parties, popular bars, eateries, cocktail bars, hookah bars and interesting places to hang out? We have all just turned thirty but a very young thirty! All suggestions welcome.
Whilst on the topic of bars, what is the tipping etiquette in Manhattan? do you tip every round of drinks? The last time i went i was told to leave my money on the bar in front of me and let the bar tender help themselves!
Yes, you should live a tip with every round of drinks if you are drinking, if you order 1 beer at a bar then $1 should be sufficient... if it is a round of drinks then a little more. Going out in NY is an expensive business and it is best to try to stick around areas where students go... just like any old city really.
Anyways good luck and have fun... if you cant find anything specific to do then check out some of the markets, such as China town for example... always find interesting things in places like that.
