Why do we still have 60k+ troops in South Korean and Japan?

Ok, i understand its from the korean war and the cold war to protect our allies SK and JPN....but isnt it absurd we have more troops in south korean than in afghanistan? isnt it crazy we have more troops in japan than in afghanistan? i mean, no shame to those men and women stationed in SK and JPN....but they really could be so much more useful in afghanistan or in iraq.

if i had the power i would withdraw them and put it in afghanistan and catch osama and root out the rest of the terrorists (should be the only war) but unfortunately i dont make the decisions. but thats just my opinion.

Contracts, promises made to defend Japan, so we don't have to do WW2 again. We don't want China to be terrified of the Japanese again. North Korea is worth watching, after all, a ruthless dictator runs the joint, so we keep him under surveillance, aim nukes at him, and in general need him, so we can keep 30k troops in Japan. If you think a nuclear N' Korea is fun, imagine a fully armed nuclear Japan. Scary. Don't worry about Osama, he's dead. The big advantage for us with this war is live fire. We get to train, with real bullets. Practice, Practice, perfect practice makes perfect. Screw the liberals, they don't fight the wars. Army maniacs do. They need to practice.
