Suggestions for coordinating a red prom dress w/ a tux?
My son's date is wearing a red dress. I know he definitely wants to wear a black tux. I need suggestions on what color shirt/tie/vest he should wear. He doesn't want to be too matchy. I'm thinking a black shirt & vest w/ a red long tie? Any thoughts/suggestions..
No long ties. Imagine if your prom date had worn a powder-blue tuxedo with a frilly shirt.
Your son has the right instinct. Matching looks showy and contrived. Fred Astaire never matched Ginger Rogers, you know. Black accessories show every man in his best light. The bow tie must be black, and must be self-tied. Avoid high-cut vests (5 or 6 buttons.) A black low-cut vest (3 or 4 buttons) or cummerbund is preferable.
The shirt, of course, should be a white turndown collar. Black is for men of ill repute. The jacket should have one or two buttons.
